Tiny Living at CSTV

Biography – tell us a little about you!

“I have been a HGTV fan for many years. I started watching the tiny house shows, it was the very first time I have even heard of such a thing. I was hooked. I lived in a tiny apartment in Indianapolis and loved it. I just like tiny spaces, they are easier to clean, easier to decorate, and easier to move. I plan on retiring to Maine, and now I don’t have to start all over. I can take my Tiny with me and know that it will be a home I love. I don’t have to give up anything.”

What is your favorite thing about tiny living at CSTV?

“My favorite thing about living at Cedar Springs Tiny Village is the surroundings. It is in a beautiful place with a beautiful view of the lake. I love all the trees and the yard is gorgeous. I really like where my house sits and even though it is in New Paris, it feels like I live in the country.”

What advice would you give to a potential tiny homeowner?

“My advice it to make sure you talk to your builders so they know exactly what you want. Stick to your guns, don’t let anyone talk you out of your dreams. Ask questions about everything, even the appliances. If they don’t want to answer your questions, get another builder. I learned the hard way that the really cool washer/dryer combo (you see them on all the HGTV tiny shows) doesn’t use heat to dry, so nothing ever gets dry. I had to buy a clothes dryer and place it on top of the really cool washer/dryer combo. The builders knew this, but since I didn’t ask about it, they didn’t mention it.”

Biography – tell us a little about you!

“Tyler and I (and the pups) love anything that involves being outside! We love hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing, and more! We became interested in Tiny Living about 2 years ago. We realized how much extra space we had in our 1,000 sq ft apartment and that we were just buying stuff to fill the space. As we started our research and learned more about tiny living, we became hooked! Over the next 6 months or so, we researched places to live and builders and the rest is history! We are now 7 months into full time tiny living and couldn’t be happier!”

What is your favorite thing about tiny living at CSTV?

“We have a lot of things that we love about Cedar Springs Tiny Village. First, the view CAN’T BE BEAT! We love opening the blinds in the morning and watching the sun come up and the critters (foxes, birds, squirrels) run around…very idillic, but so true! Second, our neighbors are fantastic, both the tiny and normal dwellers, and the town is great! We love walking around and waving to people we have met. Third, Gerald and the team have taken such great care of us! I am so thankful that their team developed the village and am so excited to see it continue to grow!

What advice would you give to a potential tiny homeowner?

“Do your research and then just do it! We were a bit nervous to downsize that much, but you just need to go for it! I can honestly say that our only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner! We have had some hiccups and had to overcome some obstacles, but we are learning what it means to live tiny every day! Reach out to people who are living some sort of alternative lifestyle (tiny house, RV, van, etc.) and pick their brain. That includes us! Tyler and I are more than welcome to talk your ear off about tiny living!

Also, start downsizing little by little. We just started going room by room and determined if that possession had a purpose. If it didn’t, then we either got rid of it or decided to keep it because of some value it had to us. We have very little belongings now, and it is awesome!!”

Biography – tell us a little about you!

“I’m an outdoor thrill seeker. I love to travel, I enjoy cooking and sewing. I’m very creative. I have been retired for 15 years and lived in 3 different states, I was tired of dragging furniture cross country so I began to downsize. When I lived in California my apartment was less than 500 square ft and that was big. I became obsessed with Tiny Living.”

What is your favorite thing about tiny living at CSTV?

“Cedar springs is a quiet, peaceful community on the lake and I like that. I have real nice neighbors that look out for each other. We all share our experience so it’s easier for others to survived the cold winters.”

What advice would you give to a potential tiny homeowner?

“Come with a pleasant attitude and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. This community is new and we are all still learning. New Paris is a small town with lots of nice people and we are 5 minutes away from big city flare if you need that and accessible to all major big box stores.”
